The 2021 Kia Sorento offerings will hit the market, taking place just below the Telluride in Kia's lineup as a smaller midsize option. Kia hopes that this new 4th generation model will capture some of the magic of her very successful and slightly older brother, Telluride. 2021 Kia Sorento Engine and Performance

The Sorento Kia 2021 model is available with four powertrains, all featuring 4-cylinder engines.

The base Sorento LX has the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine in FWD, or AWD trim produces 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. Its transmission is a convenient 8-speed automatic with a torque converter, and the EPA combined fuel mileage is 27 mpg, a two mpg improvement over the previous base Sorento. Sorento's new AWD system features a locking center differential that provides extra power to the rear wheels in a sliding position.

Next is the turbocharged version of the direct-injected 2.5-liter 4-cylinder that produces 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. Available in Sorento 2.5T models with FWD or AWD, the engine sends power to the wheels via an 8-speed weighted dual-clutch automatic transmission. The maximum towing capacity with the Turbo Four is 3,500 pounds. The EPA combined fuel economy is 25 mpg, three mpg better than the previous V6 Sorento.

The new Kia Sorento 1.6T hybrid is powered by a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder direct-injection engine and a 44 kW electric motor. It has a total output of 227 horsepower, and a 1 kWh battery powers the electric motor. Available only with front-wheel drive and equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, this Sorento achieves an admirable fuel economy according to EPA estimates: 39 mpg city / 35 mpg highway / 37 mpg combined.

For more performance, choose the new Sorento PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle). Launched in 2021, this AWD model is powered by the same direct-injection 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine as the Sorento 1.6T hybrid. But it has a more robust 66.9 kW electric motor and a 13.8 kW larger battery. It has a 6-speed automatic transmission, a total of 261 horsepower and an estimated 30 miles of power is the limit.

To complement the bold new Sorento exterior, Kia designers considered the sophisticated boldness theme and designed the compact, midsize 3-row crossover SUV’s brand new interior. They developed the Sorento cabin with 6 or 7 seats with unimaginable accents such as light satin surfaces, open palm wood inlays, vertical ventilation slots, and even embossed to support these efforts diamonds in high-quality Prestige models.

The rear of the 3rd row has a cargo capacity of 12.6 cubic feet, increasing to 38.4 cubic feet when this 50/50 split folded the third row.
